Australian Open: India's challenge ends after Rohan Bopanna bows out in mixed doubles
Melbourne/UNI: India's challenge at 2021 Australian Open came to an end after Rohan Bopanna crashed out of the mixed doubles event with a loss in the opening round, here on Saturday.
Bopanna and his Chinese partner Yingying Duan lost 4-6 4-6 to Britain’s Jamie Murray and USA’s Bethanie Mattek-Sands in a first round match that lasted an hour and three minutes.
Veteran Bopanna and Japan’s Ben McLachlan had also crashed out of the men’s doubles event after a 4-6 6-7 (0) defeat to the Korean pair of Ji Sung Nam and Min-Kyu Song in an opening-round match.
Earlier, Sumit Nagal had exited the men’s singles while Divij Sharan crashed out of the men’s doubles, both in their respective opening rounds.
In women’s doubles, too, Ankita Raina had failed to get past the first hurdle at her debut Grand Slam.
