Cricketers, fans pays tribute to Phillip Hughes online

New Delhi/Sydney, Nov 28 (IBNS): Cricketers and other sports personalities joined netizens in giving a spontaneous #putoutyourbats tribute over micro-blogging site Twitter to late Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes who passed away on Thursday.

He had died after staying in induced coma for two days, after being hit by a bouncer in the head during a domestic match.

Paying tribute to the young Australian, cricket bats and even hockey sticks  were pictured leaning against front doors, stadiums and statues.

The International Cricket Council tweeted: "At ICC Headquarters in Dubai, 105 bats from the 105 ICC Member Nations pay tribute to Phillip Hughes #putoutyourbats "

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar said: "My bat when I was 25. RIP Phil. #putoutyourbats."

West Indian legend Viv Richards posted on his Twitter page: "Rest In Peace Phillip Hughes #putoutyourbats."

In a bid to pay homage to the late cricketer, Cricket Australia  said in its website that it has placed 63 bats in the front windows of its Jolimont headquarters.

India cricketer Yuvaj Singh tweeted: "#putoutyourbats Phil Hughes you will be missed rip!"

On its official Twitter handle, the Blackcaps said:"The BLACKCAPS pay tribute to Phil Hughes ahead of day two of the Test #putoutyourbats #pakvnz ^CE."

A minute of silence of observed by Pakistan and New Zealand cricketers in memory of the batsman as they are playing the third Test in Sharjah.

The BCCI tweeted: "We pay our tributes to Phil Hughes. Honoured to have hosted the Champion in India #putoutyourbat #CricketFamily."

South African cricketer Faf Du Plessis posted on his Twitter account: "RIP Phil Hughes.#cricketfamily #putoutyourbats #63notout."

Australian player Steve Smith tweeted: "#putoutyourbats missing the little fella. #408forever."

Australian cricketer David Warner said: " #putoutyourbats missing my little mate so much!! I wish I can wake up from this bad dream. Once again."

Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane posted: " RIP Phil Hughes #PutOutYourBat #CricketFamily."

India hockey player Rupinderpal Singh said: "Phil Hughes, you will always be remembered. #PutOurYourBats #PutOutYourSticks #IndianMensHockeyTeam."

In a tragic loss to the game's fraternity, Australian Test cricketer Phillip Hughes died in in a Sydney hospital on Thursday.

He was in coma for two days following a head injury sustained while playing in a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney against New South Wales.

He was 25.

Hughes was batting on 63 when he was struck in the head by a bouncer from Sean Abbott.

Hughes tried to regain his composure but fell face first to the ground and was taken to the hospital.

Hughes made his Test debut against South Africa in Johannesburg in February-March 2009 at the age of 20.

The southpaw played 26 Tests, scoring 1535 runs, studded with three centuries and seven fifties. With a top score of 160 versus South Africa at Durban, Hughes has a modest Test average of 32.65.

Hughes made it to history books when became the youngest cricketer ever to score back-to-back centuries in a Test match at Kingsmead against South Africa. He is the only Australian to score a century on ODI debut.
