Kolkata/IBNS: Twenty four countries participated in the recently concluded second virtual International Karate & Kobudo Championship.

It was organised by the Kolkata-based Traditional Karate-Do Okinawa Kobudo Indo Kyokai under the aegis of 6th Dan Black Belt Shihan Ayan Chakraborty, who is the Chief Instructor of the Kyokai.

More than 600 Karate practitioners (Karateka) from different age groups participated in the competition.

All the participants recorded their home videos and sent them to their instructors.

After technical evaluation, the instructors forwarded the same to the organizers.

The competition was judged by Grand Masters from Japan, South Africa, Greece, Ireland, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

According to Chakraborty, one of the key reasons for organising the championship was to encourage children to pursue physical activities which they have been lacking owing to the lockdown situation.

The participants were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.
