JK tops medal tally at National Alpine Ski and Snowboard Championship
Auli/IBNS: In the ongoing National Alpine Ski and Snowboarding championship, the Jammu and Kashmir winter games team won the overall championship, while topping the medal tally with eight gold, three silver, and six bronze medals played at Auli, Uttarakhand.
A total of 300 skiers and snowboarders from across the country participated and showcased their talent.
50 athletes from Jammu and Kashmir, including boys and girls took part in the three-day-long championship that started on Feb. 7 and concluded on Feb. 9.
In the U21 Boys classification, Shoib Ahmad bagged two gold medals in Slalom, Giant Slalom, and in the under 16 category Faizan Ahmad Lone won two gold medals in Slalom, Giant Slalom.
In U- 21 girls category, Haya Muzaffar bagged silver in Giant Slalom, Mohammad Esa Anum won bronze in U 16 boys category whereas in under 14 girls category Hadika won gold in Giant slalom, and Maryam won silver in U 14 girls Giant Slalom.
Under the U18 boys category, Azhar Fayaz bagged bronze medals giant slalom.
While in Snowboarding in the boys junior category Vikar Ahmad bagged gold, Mubashir Ahamd bronze, and in U16 boys Roomanul Madina won gold, while Syed Zain bagged bronze medals.
In the U18 girls group, Ridha Altaf bagged bronze medals, and in snowboarding senior category Mehraj u din won silver.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, former International Athlete and General Manager of JK's winter games side Hafeeza Hassan said this is first time in the history of J&K that these children won the overall national championship.
“We are very proud of these young boys and girls who shined in the national championship by topping the medal tally. We believe that in the future they shall make J&K more proud by participating in international events,” she said.
