Deepak Chahar Bengaluru/UNI: Fast bowler Deepak Chahar raked in big bucks and became the second costliest player after Ishan Kishan, who was retained by Mumbai Indians for Rs 15.25 crore, so far in the 2022 IPL auction here on Saturday.
Chennai Super Kings retained Chahar for Rs 14 crore.
He had played for the franchise over the last 4 seasons after he was signed by them in 2018. The fast bowler has been the most trusted option for Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni with the new ball.
He has picked up 59 wickets in 63 matches he played in the IPL. The 2019 edition was his best when he bagged 22 wickets.
Chahar was released by Chennai ahead of the mega auction as they retained Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali for the new season.
Not only with the ball, Chahar has done exceedingly well with the bat for India.
He had scored a quickfire fifty in the ODI series finale against South Africa and chipped in with the bat during the T20I series against New Zealand at home last year.
Other fast bowlers, Lockie Ferguson and Praisdh Krishna also roped in big sums. They were bought for Rs 10 crore each by Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals, respectively. Surprisingly, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up West Indian Nicholas Pooran for a whopping 10.75 crore.
Krunal Pandya and Mitchell Marsh were other big acquisitions on Day 1.
