Hamilton: Indian cricketer Mithali Raj on Saturday broke the record for most matches as captain in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

The India skipper achieved the feat against West Indies during the team's third match of the 2022 tournament at the Seddon Park here.

Mithali went past former Australia skipper Belinda Clark's record of 23 matches.

During her career, which spanned from 1997 to 2005, Clark won 21 games, lost one and one match had no result.

Meanwhile, Mithali, who is playing her last 50-over World Cup, has won 14 games, lost eight and one had no result in her career which started in 2005.

England's Susan Goatman (19 matches), New Zealand's Trish McKelvey (15 matches) and Ireland's Mary-Pat Moore (15 matches) complete the top five.
