India set 307 as target for New Zealand to win first ODI
Riding on solid batting performances, India set 307 as target for New Zealand in the first One Day International (ODI) match at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday.
Batting first, India went off to a good start, thanks to stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan's 72 off 77 balls and Shubman Gill's 50 off 65 balls.
After India lost both the openers in two successive overs followed by Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession, Shreyas Iyer (80 off 76 balls) and Sanju Samson (36 off 38 balls) anchored the innings to help the visitors cross the 250-mark.
A late blistering cameo by Washington Sundar (37 not out off 16 balls) ensured over 300 total for India.
On a day the Kiwi bowlers went expensive, Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee picked three wickets each.
