IPL: RR beat KKR in a thriller

Abu Dhabi, Apr 30 (IBNS): In a thrilling encounter which captivated spectators across thle globe, Rajasthan Royals (RR) managed to beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) via hitting more boundaries after both the sides tied during the regular 20-20 overs innings and then in the Super Over in a Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter here on Tuesday.

Chasing 12 for victory in the Super Over, RR batsmen- Shane Watson and Steven Smith-managed to tie to ensure their side a victory in the match which continuously drifted in favour of both the teams.

In the regular duration, KKR managed to reach 152 for eight against RR's same score for the loss of five wickets and hence the match ended in a tie.

Gautam Gambhir, who was completely out of touch int he tournament so far, showed some form and contributed 45 runs with his willow.

Manvinder Bisla (3), Manish Pandey (19) and Jacques Kallis (13) returned to the pavilion without adding much to the starts they got.

Suryakumar Yadav (31) and Shakib Al Hasan (29*) batted sensibly and contributed 49 runs in the fifth wicket partnership.

As they were cruising towards victory, a single over by James Faulkner, in which he picked up three wickets, changed the course of the game.

While Yadav was the first one to go as he mistimed a shot and was caught by Smith in the first ball of the 19th over.

In the last two balls of the over, the RR pacer dismissed Robin Uthappa (0) and R Vinay Kumar (0).

With Piyush Chawla (0) getting run out in the next over in a bid to take two runs, it was Hasan's turn to reach the target all on his own.

With three needed of the last ball, Hasan picked up two to manage a tie.

Kane Richardson bowled the last over for RR.

Earlier, RR scored 152 for five in 20 overs.

Ajinkya Rahane top scored for RR with his brilliant 72 runs.

In the Super Over, KKR lost the wicket of Yadav in the very first ball as he got run out in a bid to take a second run.

Faulkner, who was adjudged the 'Man of the Match', bowled tight in the over except bring hit for a six by Pandey.

With Narine bowling the Super Over for KKR, RR just needed a tie to manage a win on Tuesday.

With three needed in the last ball, Smith showed good presence o mind and scored two runs of it to manage a victory for his side.
