Nagpur Test: After Rohit show, Jadeja, Axar take India to 400, hosts lead Australia by 223 runs
Nagpur/IBNS: After a clinical hundred by skipper Rohit Sharma, India's allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and lower order batter Axar Patel ensured India's meaty lead over Australia in the first innings of the maiden Test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy here on Saturday.
India ended up scoring 400, which was 223 runs more than Australia's mere 177.
After Rohit was dismissed for 120 on Friday, it was the partnership of Jadeja and Axar which rescued India from a middle-order collapse.
While Jadeja was dismissed for 70, Axar scored 84 to help India touch 400.
Pace bowler Mohammed Shami played an important cameo of 37 off 47 balls, aptly cooperating with Axar in extending the lead.
Australia's spin bowler Todd Murphy scripted a memorable debut picking seven Indian wickets while the rest of the job was managed by skipper Pat Cummins (two wickets) and Nathan Lyon (one wicket).
