Washington/UNI: Football legend Lionel Messi said that he does not think “a lot” about getting the UEFA best player of the year award after winning the World Cup.

UEFA announced earlier on Thursday that Messi, who recently started playing for Inter Miami, was selected among three nominees to win the 2022/23 UEFA Men's Player of the Year award along with two Manchester City players, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

"I was lucky enough to get all the trophies in my career, and after getting the World Championship, that was missing, I do not think much about that trophy," Messi told reporters during a news conference in Miami.

The player noted that collective prizes are most important, and he is still enjoying the win in the 2022 World Cup with the Argentine national team.

At the same time, he stressed that the UEFA award is a very important trophy because it is a recognition of players’ achievements.

The winners of the UEFA awards will be announced on August 31 in Monaco during the draw ceremony for the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage.
