Dubai/IBNS: Australia's World Cup winning captain Pat Cummins was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for a record Rs. 20.50 crore at the auction for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 here on Tuesday.

This was the highest price at which any player was bought by a franchise in the history of IPL.

Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore bidded for the longest time for Cummins, who ultimately fell in the kitty of the South Indian franchise.

Cummins, 30, is primarily a pace bowler who comes handy with bat for his team.

The right-handed picked 55 wickets in 50 T20Is. He picked 38 wickets in 37 IPL match between 2014 and 2021.

Cummins, who had previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders, had opted out of IPL 2023 to focus on his national team for The Ashes and 50-over ODI World Cup.

Earlier, Australia's Travis Head was also sold to Hyderabad at 6.80 crore.
