Hyderabad/IBNS: In reply to England's 246, India stopped at 436 deriving a healthy lead over the visitors in the first innings of the inaugural Test in Hyderabad on Saturday.

India's over-400 total was powered by three 80s and a couple of 40s in a match where star batter Virat Kohli was absent.

While opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed 80 off just 74 balls, KL Rahul (86 off 123 balls) and allrounder Ravindra Jadeja (87 off 180 balls) played typical Test cricket knocks to power India to a big total against the Ben Stokes side.

Axar Patel's 44 and wicketkeeper-batter Srikar Bharat's 41 turned out to be valuable contributions to the home side.

Joe Root turned out to be the most successful bowler for England clinching four wickets conceding 79 runs in 29 overs.
