Bengaluru/IBNS: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were beaten by 25 runs in their home match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Bangalore on Monday.

Chasing SRH's record 287, RCB's innings ended at 262-7, even after Dinesh Karthik's explosive 35-ball 83 knock.

Royal Challengers captain Faf du Plessis won the toss against SRH and decided to bowl first.

Batting first, SRH broke their own record for the highest-ever IPL total as they posted 287/3 against Royal Challengers.

Their mammoth innings was powered by Travis Head's 41-ball 102 and a quickfire 67 (31 balls) from Heinrich Klaasen.

For RCB, Lockie Ferguson got 2 wickets for 52 runs in his 4-over spell, while Reece Topley took one wicket for 68 runs.

RCB made a good start while chasing the massive total of 288 runs until Virat Kohli's dismissal in 6.2 overs when Royal Challengers' score was 80.

However, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis's 28-ball 62 innings and Dinesh Karthik's showstopper 35-ball 83 knock went in vain as they finished at 262-7 in 20 overs. SRH won the game by 25 runs.

For SRH, skipper Pat Cummins took 3 wickets for 43 runs in his spell, while Mayank Markande and T Natarajan got 2 and 1 wicket respectively.

RCB are lying on the bottom of the points table with one win and six losses in their seven matches, while with four wins and two losses in five games, SRH are placed at fourth position in the tournament.

RCB will play KKR in their next match on Apr 21 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, while SRH's next game is scheduled against Delhi Capitals on Apr 20.
