Bangladesh violence: Murder case filed against cricketer Shakib Al Hasan
A murder case has been filed against cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and actor Ferdous Ahmed, media reports said.
They are both former Awami League MPs from the 12th parliament of the country which was led by ex-PM Sheikh Hasina.
The case was reportedly filed by Rafiqul Islam, the father of a deceased man Rubel, at a police station in the capital Dhaka.
Rubel reportedly died during the recently held violent protests in Bangladesh which led to the ouster of Hasina from power.
Shakib is the 28th accused in the case while Ferdous accused no 55, reported Dhaka Tribune.
The other accused in the case include former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader and 154 others.
The case statement mentioned Rubel participated in the August 5 protest march in Bangladesh.
During the rally, someone allegedly fired shots into the crowd as part of a planned criminal conspiracy, resulting in Rubel being hit in the chest and abdomen, Dhaka Tribune reported.
He died on August 7.
Bangladesh witnessed violent protests over the quota issue in recent times which soon spiralled into a demonstration against the former Awami League-led government which even left several people dead.
The protests continued and eventually forced former PM Sheikh Hasina to escape to India, leading to the fall of her government.
Hasina had returned to power for another term after registering landmark victory in the general polls earlier this year.
