Mumbai/IBNS: Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant's big partnership helped India to reestablish their control over the third and final Test against New Zealand in Mumbai on Saturday.

After India's harakiri in the last few overs of the day's play on Friday, Gill and Pant scored their respective half-centuries this morning in quick time.

While Pant scored 60 from 59 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes against his name, Gill is unbeaten at 70 from 106 balls.

Along with Gill, allrounder Ravindra Jadeja was at the crease with India's score reading 195/5 when the players went back for lunch. Together they stitched a 96-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

India are 40 runs behind New Zealand's first innings total of 235.

Towards the end of first day's play, India lost back to back wickets in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal, nightwatchman Mohammed Siraj and a shocking dismissal of Virat Kohli who took an attempt to steal a quick run.
