OIL India 'A' take charge at The Telegraph Merchant's and Challenge Cup 2015

Kolkata, July 29 (IBNS): OIL India 'A' powered by T Hazarika's 73 raced to the top of the Division I with a total of 150 at Ballantine's presented The Telegraph Merchant's Cup being played here at the prestigious Royal Calcutta Golf Club.

Akshay Bajoria’s 77 had McLeod & Co. being placed second one stroke behind while McLeod Russel ‘A’ took the third place thanks to SN Chowdhary’s 74 a further three strokes behind.

In Division II, Iqbal Sukarchakia continued Amalgated Plantations ‘B’s hold of the top position with a 93 to lead Williamson Magor ‘C’ by two strokes who had GJ Ambooken shoot a 94. Bhaskar Satya Khaund shot a 91 to place OIL India ‘B’ in third place.

P Borgohain’s 81 took McLeod Russel ‘F’ to the top two strokes ahead of Andrew Yule ‘B’ whose Sunil Munshi shot an 84 for a two day total of 173. Williamson Magor ‘B’ occupy the third place as R Takru matched his teammate with an 88 for a combined total of 176.

Tridev Hazarika’s (OIL India ‘A’) net score of 54 was the day’s best in Division I while Jusco’s Sushmita Ghosh took the honors in Division II with a net 60. SK Guha of Goodricke Group ‘C’ shot a net 66 to be the best in Divison III.

South India Projects continued their domination of The Telegraph Challenge Cup when P Goenka shot a day’s best 70 for a two day total of 140 and have them lead by six strokes over DGI Singapore whose Kunal Guha shot a 73. Rawmet Commodities led by Biren Dey’s 73 and Deepak Tandon’s 74 sit third a further stroke behind at 147 tied with Vyana Wealth Management and GI Security represented by Raman Chatta (76) and Aditya Bajoria (75).

Under overcast conditions, RS Chattha of Vatan Wealth stuck it the sweetest off the tee in the Ballantine’s Longest Drive while Indrajit Roy of Standard Chartered Private hit it closest to the pin.

The world’s oldest intercompany event, which first began in 1906, is presented by Ballantine’s. Standard Chartered is the banking partner with Amazing Thailand on board as a co-sponsor. Partnering the event are Voltas, 91.9 Friends FM along with Coca Cola and Kingfisher.

The format of play is rather gripping and exciting. The Merchant’s Cup shall be played on open stroke play and the Challenge Cup will be played on Callaway scoring system. The week-long prestigious event is managed by leading event management company Tiger Sports Marketing.
