London, Aug 21 (IBNS) Australia made up for some poor cricket over the last three Tests as they first scored 481 runs in their first innings and then strangled the hosts, picking up wickets at regular intervals to leave England high and dry, here on Friday.

England are eight down for 107 on board and trail by 393 runs.

Steve Smith scored a fine century, 143 off 252 balls and together with Adam Voges (76) put up a 146 runs for the fourth wicket partnership.

After the dismissal of Voges, Smith along with Mitchell Starc put up another century plus stand for the eighth wicket. Starc played a flurry of shots as the southpaw scored 58 off 52 deliveries.

For England, Moeen Ali, Steven Finn and Ben Stokes picked up 3 wickets each while Mark Wood picked up the remaining one.

The English batsmen failed to convert their starts. Adam Lyth (19), Cook (22), Ian Bell (10), Root (6), Bairstow (13), Stokes (15), Buttler (1), Broad (0) all got out cheaply. Moeen Ali (8) and mark Wood (8) are at the crease.

Johnson picked up a wicket, Lyon and Peter Siddle picked up 2 each and Mitchell Marsh accounted for 3 scalps.
