Senior boys and girls make it a Rajasthan affair; Maharashtra, N.Bengal share junior titles

India Blooms News Service | | 10 Dec 2015, 07:44 pm
Indore, Dec 9 (IBNS) Both Rajasthan's Mayur School and St. Xavier's Senior Secondary School lifted the Senior Boys and Senior Girls trophies in the 11Even Sports Inter-School National Table Tennis Championships, which concluded at the Abhay Prashal here on Wednesday.
Mayur boys beat Maharashtra’s Jamnabai School 3-0 while St Xavier’s girls beat Siliguri Girls School 3-1 to make it an all Rajasthan affair in the senior sections. But the Jamnabai’s Junior Boys made amends while another North Bengal team, Jermels Academy made up for the Siliguri School girls by annexing the Junior titles.

With Manav Thakkar and Anukram in such a form it was always going to be difficult for any opponent and it was never a surprise that they had the upper hand all through the championships, including in the final against Jamanbai boys. Similarly, Priyanka Pareek’s fantastic outings in national ranking championships and the nationals stood her in good stead as she contributed hugely to St Xavier’s title triumph.

Maharashtra’s Jamnabai School blanked out North Bengal’s Margaret SN English School 3-0 in the final to claim the Junior Boys title. Dev Shroff and Maanav Mehta not only won their singles against Rauna Tiwari and Jayabrata Bhattacharjee but the Maharashtra school’s duo combined well to win the doubles to pull the shutters down on the Margaret boys.

Anargya Manjunath’s good work went down the drain as Jermels Academy from North Bengal won the Junior Girls crown after struggling past 3-2 in the final. The Jyothy Kendriya Vidyalaya’s spearhead whose good form and work—she won both her singles but failed to win crucial doubles—was not good enough as fortunes fluctuated from one extreme to another in the doubles. However, this loss will haunt the school for a long time as their weak link Yogeshwari Thyagraj failed to win one of her singles.

As for other losing semifinalists—Navcharna and ML Kakadia Schools from Gujarat, Loyola High School from Goa, Bhavan’s Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya from Telangana, MAPS from Rajasthan, Jamnabai  School from Maharashtra and Scholars Rosary School from Harayana—in the four sections, their best was not enough to remain in contest.
