Shashank Manohar resigns as BCCI president

Mumbai, May 10 (IBNS) The BCCI on Tuesday confirmed that Shashank Manohar has resigned from the post of the President.

"He has also resigned as the BCCI representative on the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council," read the BCCI statement.

"The BCCI places on record its deep appreciation of the immense contribution to Indian cricket made by  Manohar," it said.

This was the shortest ever tenure by a BCCI President.

He made the move amid speculations that he did it in order to contest for the post of independent chairman of the International Cricket Council.

As the rule of the international cricket body, the chairman should be of independent nature. He cannot perform in dual role by keeping his position as his nation's cricketing supremo.

He was elected to the post last year.

He had succeed late BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya who died in Kolkata in 2015.
