Sonia Gandhi wishes Indian contingent of athletes for Olympics

New Delhi, Aug 5 (IBNS): Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday congratulated the Indian contingent of athletes for the Olympics.

"On the eve of the opening ceremony of Rio Olympics, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has wished great success to the Indian Contingent of athletes," the Congress party tweeted.

The Maracana Stadium is all set to witness a major ceremony which will mark the opening of the grand sporting event of the year Olympics on Friday.

206 nations will be represented by their athletes as they will be competing to grab a medal for their country's glory.
Billions of people across the globe are expected to watch the games.

Issues like Russian doping scandal, the Zika virus had dominated the scenario before start of the game.

The games will be staged from Aug 5 to 21.
