Rio: Sakshi Malik clinches bronze

Rio, Aug 18 (IBNS): Ending India's drought at the Rio Olympics, Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in the women's 58 kg freestyle event on Thursday.

She is the first Indian woman wrestler to clinch a Olympic medal.

She defeated  Kyrgyzstan's Aisuluu Tynybekova 8-5 in a crucial contest to clinch the medal.

Sakshi Malik became the fourth woman from India to win a Olympic medal.

Karnam Malleshwari, Mary Kom and Saina Nehwal had earlier won medals.

Earlier, Malik  was defeated in the quater-finals Russia's Valeriia Koblova by 2-9.

She got a second chance in repechage  after Valeriia Koblova reached final.
