New York, Sep 1 (IBNS): Garbine Muguruza of Spain crashed out of the US Open tennis championship on Wednesday after being defeated by Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia, according to media reports.

Muguruza, world number 3 and French Open champion Muguruza lost 7-5 6-4 to Sevastova, who is ranked 48th in the second round of the championship at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 22-year old Spaniard has failed to clear the second round of the US Open in all her four outings.

The 26-year old Latvian, who was out of tennis for almost 18 months, beat a player among the top five for the first time in her career.
