Kanpur, Sept 22 (IBNS): Playing their 500th Test match at the Green Park, Kanpur,Indian batsmen put up 105 runs for the loss of a wicket in their first innings on the maiden day of the first Test match with New Zealand on Thursday.

India elected to bat after their captain won the toss.

The New Zreland bowlers were made to work hard as both Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara looked solid against them.

Their only reward so far came in form of KL Rahul's dismissal, who perished for 32 runs off 39 balls.

Santner's scalp ended an opening stand of 42 runs between Rahul and Vijay, but paved a bigger one as the latter along with Pujara have already put on an unbeaten 62-run partner for the second wicket.
