Ind-NZ: Pujara, Rahane stem the rot, play out session
At tea, India are at 136 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Pujara (64) and Rahane (47), who started the session with 57 runs, batted sensibly to put up an unbeaten 90-run partnership, thus denying the Kiwi bowlers another wicket.
The partnership had a couple of tense moments as both the batsmen survived close calls, but with the progression of the match, the boundaries started flowing as both Pujara and Rahane played some crisps drives to frustrate the Kiwi bowlers.
Earlier, winning the toss and electing to bat first, Virat Kohli and his men got off to a rocky start as Shikahar Dhawan, making his comeback in the Test side, was bowled for just 1 run on the scoreboard.
A small partnership of 26 runs followed between Murali Vijay (9) and Pujara, but Matt Henry got the former to edged one to the wicket-keeper.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli (9) too got off to a start, but slashed one to gully for Tom Latham to complete a smart catch and end his innings prematurely.
This is India's 250th Test at home and 501st overall.
