India now lead England 134 runs by virtue of their first innings score.
Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja, who resumed his innings on 70 runs in the post lunch session, added 20 more, 16 of those plundered of a Chris Woakes over, failed to reach the three figure mark.
Jadeja (90) was caught in the deep by Woakes off Adil Rashid.
The Jadeja-Jayant partnership added 80 runs for the eighth wicket.
The latter too reached his maiden Test fifty.
Playing his second Test, Jayant was out for 55, as he failed to pick a slower ball from Ben Stokes.
Stokes was the pick of the English bowlers, picking up five wickets for 73 runs.
Rashid finished with four.
