Suresh Kalmadi declines Life President of IOA

New Delhi, Dec 28 (IBNS): Commonwealth Games scam accused Suresh Kalmadi has declined the post of Life President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), media reports said.

In a move which can trigger trouble, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Tuesday named Commonwealth Games scam accused Suresh Kalmadi as its lifetime patron in the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Suresh Kalmadi has declined the post of Life President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), his lawyer told NDTV

The AGM has also named Abhay Singh Chautala as its president.

Meanwhile, adding more troubles for the IOA, Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel said the government will break ties with the organization if Kalmadi and Chautala were ssacked from the post.

The Minister tweeted: "Transparency & accountability is vital in #sports; until #Kalmadi & #Chautala resign or are removed, we will not deal with IOA in any form."

Kalmadi served as IOA president from 1996 to 2011.

He was then involved in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games corruption scandal and was jailed for 10 months.

Kalmadi was later released on bail.
