India lose third ODI by 5 runs
India ended with 316 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs, falling short by five runs.
After a nervous start, the Indian innings was steadied by skipper Virat Kohli, who struck yet another half-century (55) and senior pro Yuvraj Singh (45).
The duo added 65 runs for the third wicket, before Virat edged one back to the English wicket-keeper Jos Buttler.
Yuvraj started slow, but picked up pace as his innings progressed.
The south paw hit five fours and a six in his 57-ball knock.
Following his departure, former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and middle order batsman Kedar Jadhav put together 40 runs for the sixth wicket.
Much like Virat Kohli, Dhoni (25) too perished while trying to flash at a wide delivery.
At 173 for the loss of half their side, the home team looked down and out but a century plus stand between Jadhav and Hardik Pandya for the ensuing wicket took it down the wire.
Pandya's knock of 56 from 43 balls was laden with four fours and two maximums, as he played the more aggressive partner of the two.
Jadhav's calm knock of 90 runs almost spoiled the party for England but in the end he perished while trying to hit a ball out of the park.
Needing 16 runs in the final over, Jadhav hit Chris Woakes for a six and a bounday in the first two balls, before the bowler managed to squeeze in a couple of dot balls.
This is England first international win against India in the ongoing tour.
Previously they had conceded the five-match Test series 0-4 and lost the first two ODI's of the three-match series.
For his stunning effort with the bat, Kedar Jadhav took home the Man of the series trophy, while Ben Stokes was adjudged the Man of the match in the last ODI.
