India defeat England at Lord's after 28 years
Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma bowled brilliantly as he picked up seven wickets to destroy the English line-up in the second Test match of the five-match series.
Chasing a target of 319 runs, England resumed the day at 105 for four. Overnight batsmen Joe Root (66) and Moeen Ali (39) were playing sensibly and gave some hope of saving the game to spectators.
Sharma broke the partnership and picked up the wicket of Ali. Both added 101 runs in the fifth wicket partnership.
Hitting two boundaries and scoring 12 off 11 balls, Matt Prior could not continue the start he had made to the innings.
Sharma, who was adjudged the Man of the Match, took the wickets of Prior, Ben Stokes, Root and Stuart Broad to finish with career-best figures of 7-74.
James Anderson was run out by Ravindra Jadeja as the visitors' second innings ended at 223.
Root remained the top scorer for the side with his 66.
Shami and Jadeja picked up a wicket each in the innings.
