Resistance was much more playing against Australia than other teams: Virat Kohli

Dharamsala, Mar 28 (IBNS): Amidst the heated up words between two teams, Indian captain Virat Kohli at the post match press conference said that they felt the resistance was much more playing against Australia than other teams in the concluding season, on Tuesday.

Both the teams were seen to be in verbal conflicts throughout the series and Australian captain Steve Smith's calling Indian player Murali Vijay "f***ing cheat" was the latest.

India after winning the test series against Australia 2-1, concluded the 2016-2017 playing season without losing a single test series.

Before Australia, India defeated Srilanka, West Indies, New Zealand and England on a trot.

Speaking about the performance of Indian team in the concluding season, Kohli said: "It is a very proud moment for us because we played good cricket throughout the season and dominated in the test matches. It was important for a young side to build characters and  to play well consistently which we have achieved."

Kohli credited the support staff members for the success of the team in the season.

"Credits to all support staffs because they try to prepare the team to comeback from tough situations. The success is a full team effort."

Kohli believes that the trick of playing five bowlers in the fourth test match helped India to restrict the Aussie batting.

Regarding the bowling performances of the team, Indian captain said: "The idea of playing with five bowlers and picking Kuldeep Yadav came from acting captain Rahane and coach Anil Kumble which made a big difference in the match. I think bowling out the opponents on the same day for 300 was really demoralising for them."

However, Kohli lauded the fast bowlers and particularly Umesh Yadav as a reason behind the team's success.

"All fast bowlers were outstanding which probably one of the factors that made the difference as we have been able to win more games than losing and drawing" he said.

"Umesh has become much smarter bowlers in spells" Kohli added.

Umesh Yadav had been successful in providing major breakthroughs and particularly his early spells on the third day of the fourth test match helped India to be on the driving seat.

Though India is currently the number one test side, Kohli felt that it is not the right time to be too much excited.

"There is no point of getting over excited after the success as it is a classic case of understanding that it is not the end. We are very proud to be the number one side. Our main challenge begins now. If we conquer the overseas series then probably I will be happier. We understand where we stand at the end of this series as a team as well as individuals and I am a proud captain" Indian captain added.
