Vijay Amritraj calls on Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel

New Delhi, Apr 11 (IBNS): Former Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj here today called on the Union Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel.

During their meeting, Amritraj expressed his desire to boost tennis in India and also help the government to work together in promotion of sports and talent search.

Vijay Goel stated that his Ministry will initiate scholarships for talented tennis players and will provide them the best facilities so that India can win big in the global arena.

Later answering questions by media persons on the recent Mahesh Bhupathi-Leander Paes controversy, the Minister said that the prerogative to select the playing squad is of the captain but if there's any major conflict, the Ministry would surely help in the mediation process in the larger interest of sports.

He reiterated that the doors of his Ministry are open 24x7 for players, coaches and other officials and they are free to share their problems and issues of concern. He said, the Ministry will surely work for making situation better and resolving the issues.

Later, IOA President N. Ramachandran also called on the Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel to invite him for the Asian Squash Championship which Minister accepted.

Vijay Goel welcomed the IOA's decision to recognise the Boxing Federation of India which will be a big boon for players and their future.
