KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir wishes Bengalis on Paila Baisakh

Kolkata, Apr 15 (IBNS): Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, whose IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders is taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad here on Saturday, wished Bengalis on the occasion of Paila Baisakh or the Bengali New Year.

Gambhir tweeted: "A very happy Bengali new year to all of u. Hopefully @KKRiders can present u with a win today as new year's gift."

West Bengal on Saturday ushered in its new year with fresh fervour, joy, hope and aspirations amid the exchange of hugs and wishes within the Bengali community which is celebrating the auspicious occasion of Poila Baishakh (the first day of the Bengali calendar), which marks the 'Nababarsho' or the Bengali new year.

This day generally occurs on the 14th April or 15th April, and is celebrated in both Bangladesh and the Indian state of West Bengal, as well as among Bengali communities in the other Indian states, including Assam, Tripura, Jharkhand and Odisha.
