Rift with coach Anil Kumble is a speculation created by some people: Virat Kohli

Birmingham, June 3 (IBNS): Rubbishing all news regarding the possible rift between him and coach Anil Kumble, Indian captain Virat Kohli on Saturday said that it is nothing but a speculation created by some people.

The captain made the comment at a time when it is less than 24 hours left for the high voltage match between India and Pakistan in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2017.

"I didn't even know about it. Lot of people like to create rumours at the start of a tournament like Champions Trophy. Unless they are are a part of something, must not speak about it from a distance" Kohli said at a pre-match press conference.

The Indian captain even stated clearly that he has no problem with coach Kumble.

For last few days, rumours were on the air about the possible disagreement between the coach and the captain of the Indian team, which had gained momentum particularly after the notice issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to search for a new head coach.

Kumble, whose contract as the head coach terminates  after Champions Trophy, had a phenomenal record in the last season with the consecutive wins against major countries of the world like Australia, England, Sri Lanka, West Indies, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

India even started off well their journey in England with two wins in the warm up matches, ahead of the India-Pakistan clash on Sunday.

Kohli even said that the professional journey with coach Kumble in the last few months has been good.

At the time when Kumble was appointed as the head coach of the team, Kohli was the skipper of the test side but later assumed the helm in the limited overs cricket, following MS Dhoni's resignation as the captain.

Kumble made a last minute entry in the race for the job of head coach and was appointed by the three members committee that includes former Indian cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

Speaking about the Indian bowling unit, Kohli said: "All bowlers bowled beautifully. The decision to choose the combination of the bowlers will be taken after seeing the wicket. All options are available. Team looks to be very balanced which is reflected in the warm up matches. So, its a good headache to have regarding the selection."

In the warm up matches, the Indian bowling unit was successful with the ball and particularly in the match against Bangladesh, where they bowled out their opposition to only 84 runs.

For the first time Kohli will be leading the Indian side in any major tournament since he became captain of the shorter formats.

However, he did not give any importance to the added responsibility as a captain in the Champions Trophy and said: "It hasn't changed anything as a captain.I played with responsibility even when I was not the captain. Now I am focusing on the team. For me, every game is important and I play with equal commitment."

Kohli played match winning knocks in both the times when India took on Pakistan in World Cup 2015 and T20 world Cup 2016.

The Indian captain felt that the bowling unit of Pakistan could surprise them on Sunday as they do not play them often.

Last time India played against Pakistan was during the T20 World Cup in 2016.

Commenting on the high scores in the opening games, the Indian captain said that no target is now safe in the shorter format of games.

"Any two batsmen can chase down any total. So, the applications has to be right along with good bowling" he said.

Kohli, who had taken up the responsibility to lead the side in shorter formats in last few months, considered the suggestions from the former Indian captain MS Dhoni to be 'priceless'.

"Its priceless to have his thoughts and views. He says small things but that makes big difference. I always seek his opinions" the captain said.

In the last ODI games against England, the present and former Indian captain were seen to share thoughts and consult on field in the course of the play.

Both India and Pakistan will begin their journey in Champions Trophy 2017 with Sunday's match.
