Losing the toss, England batsmen came out to bat first and scored a 300 plus total, boasting on contributions made by Alex Hales (56), Joe Root (64) and Jos Butler's unbeaten 61.
All-rounder Ben Stokes too added to the total with a knock of 48 runs off 53 balls.
Adam Milne and Corey Anderson picked up three wickets each of the English batting line up.
New Zealand will have to chase down the target of 311 at a run-rate slightly higher than six per over.
