BCCI extends timeline for the extension for applying for the post of Head Coach

Mumbai, June 23 (IBNS): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced has extended the timeline for submission of applications for the post of 'Head Coach' for India Men's Cricket Team.

"The candidates who have applied earlier need not reapply and will be included in the final list of applicants," the BCCI said in a statement.

The last date for submission of applications  has been extended till July 9, the board confirmed.

"Interested candidates should send their application to coachappointment@bcci.tv and need to be available for personal/video interviews in the following week," it said.

The post is currently vacant since former skipper Anil Kumble refused to extend his term after it expired recently.

He last served as the coach of the Indian team in the recently held Champions Trophy.

Pakistan defeated India in the final of the tournament to lift the title.

Kumble was appointed as the coach over Ravi Sashtri by the Cricket Advisory Committee which comprises of former Indian cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, last year.

The BCCI is now seeking the assistance of the Cricket Advisory Committee in its search for a new head coach for the Senior India Men's Cricket Team.

In the interim, the BCCI has deputed MV Sridhar, GM - Cricket Operations is supervising the Team Management for the West Indies tour,  which will commenced from Friday.

Rumours were going on for last few months about the possible rift between Indian captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble, though the news was not confirmed any way.

Kohli, in a press conference during Champions Trophy this month, said these were made up stories by the media. It was nothing but the minor disagreement between them, he said.

Prior to the end of Champions Trophy, BCCI has also put up a notice for the selection of a new coach.

While Virender Sehwag applied for the job, Kumble was given a free entry to the process.
