Dhoni, who has started his international career against Bangladesh in 2005, already achieved several milestones in his cricketing career.

So far, only five Indian players had played 300 or more International matches. The list includes Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh.

Dhoni, who is popularly known as "captain cool", led the Indian team to win T20 World Cup and 50 overs World Cup in 2007 and 2011 respectively.

Also, the Indian test team reached the number no.1 ranking under his captaincy.

Taking everyone to surprise, the most successful Indian captain announced  his retirement from test cricket in December 2014.

In early 2017, Dhoni had also taken a major decision of stepping down as the Indian captain and since then he continued to play for India as a wicket-keeper batsman.

Apart from the number of matches, one more milestone is awaiting for the former Indian captain and that is 10000 runs.

The 36-year old is less than 400 runs behind the 10000 runs mark which is achieved by only three Indian batsmen so far.

In the 300th match against Sri Lanka, Dhoni played a good finishing knock of unbeaten 49 runs. The former Indian skipper's brief innings helped India to post a mammoth total of 375/5 in 50 overs in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka.

India has already won the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka 3-0.
