New York, Sep 11 (IBNS): Top seed Rafael Nadal has outplayed South Africa's Kevin Anderson to win the US Open's men's singles title.

The 31-year old Spanish tennis icon defeated Anderson 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

With this win, Nadal registered his third US Open title and 16th grand slam victory.

This is the first time since 2013, Nadal won the US Open title.

Apart from the US Open, Nadal has also won the French Open earlier in 2017.

Nadal was quoted by BBC as saying: "After a couple of years with some troubles, injuries, sometimes playing not good - since the beginning of the season it has been very, very emotional."

Praising the winner, Anderson said: "I've been watching you my whole life. You are one of the greatest ambassadors of our sport."
