Test: India losing grip over match, series

London, Aug 16 (IBNS): England needed another good knock after losing couple of quick wickets and it was Joe Root's unbeaten 92 which helped them stand comfortably at 385 for seven, ahead of India by 237 runs, at the end of the second day of the fifth Test match here on Saturday.

Root looked comfortable as he played the Indian bowlers well and took the match slowly away from India's grip at the end of second day after the visitors were bowled out for 148.

Overnight not out batsmen, Alastair Cook (79), Sam Robson (37) added more runs before India got their first break through by picking up the wicket of Robson.

Gary Ballance (64) and Cook joined in a 125-run second wicket stand which turned out to be crucial for England.

Cook, Ballance, Ian Bell (7) and Moeen Ali (14) returned early to the pavilion as Indians made a tiny attempt to move back to the game.

It was Root who shattered such hopes with his knock that included nine boundaries and a six.

Jos Buttler contributed 45 runs with his willow and Chris Woakes departed without contributing a single run with his willow.

Chris Jordan (19) and Root finished the day without further damage, leaving a huge challenge for the Indian batsmen to save the match in the last three days of the game.

Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron and R Ashwin have picked up two wickets each and
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has scalped one.

Indian batting line-up collapsed once again as the visitors were bowled out for 148 on Friday. Skipper MS Dhoni top scored with his 82.

England lead the series 2-1.
