Thirimanne and Mathews steady Sri Lanka at 113/2 at tea
Kolkata, Nov 18 (IBNS) : Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews played the anchor with an unbeaten 79-run partnership, as Sri Lanka went for tea at 113 for the loss of two wickets keeping up the fightback after early losses in their first innings against India on the third day of the first test match.
While Thirimanne was batting with 48, Mathews was on 21, both continuing with patient knocks on a green and moist wicket which had earlier spelt a disaster for the hosts.
Sri Lanka had a bad start having lost two quick wickets at the team's total of 34 as Indian pacer Bhubaneswar Kumar picked up early both the openers- Dimuth Karunaratne (8) and Sadeera Wickrama (23).
Earlier, Cheteshwar Pujara made a gritty 52 before India were bowled out for 172 before before lunch. .
Wriddhiman Saha (29) and Ravindra Jadeja (22) shared a 48-run sixth-wicket stand on a green wicket while number-10 Mohammed Shami chipped in with a 22-ball 24.
Sri Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal, who took three wickets on day one, finished with figures of 4-26.
Lahiru Gamage, Dasun Shanaka and Dilruwan Perera claimed two wickets each
