Kolkata, Dec 13 (IBNS): Even as the city gets restless for World Champion Kenensia Bekele, a lucky few may still have a chance to be at the starting line of the TSK 25K even though registration has closed for a good seven days now.
Distance Running is a mass participative sport and an event of this stature and scale requires massive coordination between all the stake holders at various levels to ensure an enhanced running experience for all participants. For the fourth edition of the event, Procam International, promoters of the event,outlined the race day arrangements, medical facilities and unveiled the route map for the event.
Present on the occasion were Hugh Jones, Race Director,Dr Sanjukta Dutta, Medical Director TSK25K and Head Emergency Fortis Hospital, Prasun Mukherjee, President West Bengal Athletic Association, Solomon Nessakumar, Dy Commissioner Traffic Kolkata and Vivek Singh, Jt MD, Procam International.
Speaking on the occasion, Vivek Singh, Jt MD, Procam International said, “ The response from the city has been phenomenal and the registrations figures reflect that. We are currently full with the registrations for the 10K, 25K and senior citizens category. A few spaces are available for the Ananda Run and the Champions for Disability run. So by race day we should be looking around at some 15,000 participants. We would like to thank all our partners including the Kolkata Police and Debashish Kumar, who havesupported the event since its inception and contributing to the success of TSK25K.
Adding to this Race Director, Hugh Jones said, “I’ve been involved with Procam and the events in India since 2004 and it is wonderful to see the scale and growth of this event. This year is a big step for us with all the international athletes and specially Bekele making his running debut in India. I am sure with the right weather conditions, it is going to be a race to remember.”
Fortis Hospital have been partnering TSK 25K for the last three years and have been impeccable in giving medical attention to the runners. This year the arrangements are even bigger as the race goes international.
“It is wonderful to be the medical partner for TSK25K 2017 for the third consecutive year. Kolkata is not considered a very athletic city. The people of this city are running marathon with such enthusiasm and the number of participants are increasing every year which itself is amazing. TSK25K is definitely one of the best platforms for encouraging healthy lifestyle among people in Kolkata. Our medics are committed to treat injuries and prevent any form serious medical consequences during the run. Our doctors will be on the bikes and promptly provide any medical help needed to the runners throughout the route. We shall also be having our ACLS Ambulances standby at strategic locations for any further eventuality along with our trained team of 80 medics and paramedics manning the 25K route,” said Dr Sanjukta Dutta, Head - Emergency Services, Fortis Hospital.
