Aanchal Thakur wins first international medal for India in skiing, PM Modi congratulates
ManalI, Jan 10 (IBNS): Recording her name in the book of Indian sporting history, Aanchal Thakur made the country proud by clinching nation's first-ever international medal in skiing.
The Manali resident won the bronze medal in the coveted Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup organised by the Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS).
She won the medal at the event which was held at the Palandoken Ski Centre in Erzurum in Turkey.
The Indian girl won the medal in the slalom race category.
"Months of training have finally borne fruit. I started well and managed to take a good lead, which helped later in getting the third-place finish," she told The Times of India.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the athlete as he tweeted: "Well done @alleaanchal for winning an international medal in skiing! The entire nation is ecstatic on your historic accomplishment at the FIS International Skiing Competition in Turkey. Wishing you the very best for your future endeavours."
Sports Minister of India and Olympic medal winner Rajyavardhan Rathore said: "Congrats Aanchal Thakur @alleaanchal for the Slalom Skiing Bronze in the FIS International Skiing Competition in Turkey. India opens account by a first ever medal in skiing Well done! @jairamthakurbjp."
