Leander Paes, Raja reach Australian Open pre-quarterfinal
Melbourne, Jan 20 (IBNS): Indian tennis star Leander Paes and his partner Purav Raja reached the pre-quarterfinal in the men’s doubles by beating fifth seeded pairing of Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares in a crucial Australian Open clash here on Saturday.
Paes and Raja defeated their opponents 7-6 (3), 5-7, 7-6 (6).
The match lasted for two hours, 54 minutes.
Paes and Raja will now play against 11th seeded duo of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah of Colombia.
It was in 2012, when Leander had last won the Australian Open with Radek Stepanek by beating Bryan Brothers of the US.
Leander and Raja remained dominant all through out the match.
