Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane gets IPL contract, PM congratulates

Kathmandu, Jan 29 (IBNS): Nepali cricketer- Sandeep Lamichhane- has joined the name of his nation to one of the top cricket leagues of the world Indian Premier League.

In the latest auction season for the next IPL tournament, Delhi Daredevils have picked up the 17-year-old cricketer.

He has become the first Nepali cricketer to be picked up by an IPL team for the cash-rich annual tournament.

Delhi picked up the spinner for Rs 20 Lakh.

The IPL side tweeted: " 17-year-old sensation with a knack for picking up wickets, @IamSandeep25 will be vying to do his country proud come the Vivo IPL season! ."

Sandeep said he was happy to be added to the Delhi squad for IPL 2018.

"Very happy to be announced as the player of @DelhiDaredevils for this season of @IPL ! Special thanks to all those people who kept me in their prayers with holding their nerves ! Journey begins now !! ," he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Nepal  Sher Bahadur Deuba congratulated the young cricketer for the achievement.

His official Twitter handle posted: " CONGRATULATIONS to Sandeep Lamichhane (@IamSandeep25)for being the first Nepali to play #IPL.Not just me,but the entire nation is proud of you.All the best for your exciting journey ahead.Thank you @DelhiDaredevils for showing faith in him.Thank you everyone who helped him."
