Mumbai, Feb 24 (IBNS): 24 February is considered as an important date in the life of Indian batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar.

It was on this date, when Sachin, eight years ago in 2010, had  scored a double hundred in a one-day international match played against South Africa in Gwalior.

He was the first international batsman to create the record.

In his 200 runs innings, he had reached the score in  147 balls, hitting 25 fours and three maximums.

He broke the record created by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar (194) and Zimbabwean Charles Coventry (194).

He tweeted today: " Didn’t realise it until now but the 24th is a lucky date for me. Those memories will forever be etched in my heart."

ICC also remembered the moment and posted: "147 balls. 25 fours. 3 sixes. 200 not out! #OnThisDay in 2010, @sachin_rt made history against South Africa in Gwalior as the first man to score a double century in ODIs!."

Chris Gayle smashed double century on this day against Zimbabwe in 2015 in a ICC World Cup match.

" Exactly five years after @sachin_rt made the first double century in men's ODIs, @henrygayle joined the 200 club with 215 against Zimbabwe at the @cricketworldcup, #OnThisDay in 2015! ," ICC tweeted.
