MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli rested for tri-series in Sri Lanka

Mumbai, Feb 25 (IBNS): Indian skipper Virat Kohli and senior cricketer MS Dhoni have been rested for the Nidahas Trophy 2018 to be played in Sri Lanka.

MSK Prasad, Chairman, All-India Senior Selection Committee, said: “We’ve kept in mind the workload and upcoming schedule while finalizing the team for Nidahas Trophy. The high-performance team has suggested that adequate rest should be given to our fast bowlers to help improve athletic performance, maximize rest and prevent injury.”

“Mr MS Dhoni was not available for selection as he had requested for rest,” he added.

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian side in the absence of Kohli.

Shikhar Dhawan has been named his deputy for the series.

For the tri-series, selectors also rested Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya.

Washington Sundar, Vijay Shankar, Rishabh Pant, Deepak Hooda and Mohammad Siraj have been named in the 15-men squad for the T20 series.

Sharma had led the side against Sri Lanka in a limited overs series recently.

All matches will be held at R Premadasa Stadium.
