Mumbai, Mar 28 (IBNS): Nominated Rajya Sabha member and former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday visited a school in Sewri area of Mumbai.

Guru Govind Singh T School was one of the first schools for which Sachin had sanctioned funds for the construction and upgradation of classrooms.

He interacted with the school children who are the beneficiaries of this upgradation. He also encouraged the kids to study hard as well as make time for playing sports.

Batting to build a stronger future of India, Sachin Tendulkar has funded school and educational institute projects worth 7.4cr through MPLAD.

Sachin has been at the forefront in utilizing his MPLAD funds not only for the betterment of school children across the country but also for the benefit of public services.

Along with funding of infrastructure for several schools and educational institutes, Sachin has also been supporting public services such as police departments.

He sanctioned INR 15lakh funds for the development of infrastructure and water supply equipment for police training institute in Tasgaon city of Sangli district, Maharashtra.

Sachin has been advocating for the overall development of children right from school days and has been focussed at bringing necessary infrastructure even in the remote areas of India

Funding of the schools and educational institute projects include construction of school buildings, compound walls, libraries, laboratories, common rooms for girls, toilets, waiting areas, purchase of computers etc. Among these projects, some include construction of school for mentally challenged in Ahmednagar, multimedia classroom for deaf children in the school of Cherkela, Kasargod district in Kerala and hostel for Tai speaking students in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Sachin Tendulkar has dedicatedly sanctioned funds for schools and colleges in the remotest areas in India through construction of buildings, laboratories, classrooms, hostels and so on. Through MPLAD, Sachin has sanctioned funds for around 20 projects of schools and educational institutes covering the areas of West Medinapur in West Bengal, Nellore District in Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, Solapur and Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, Kasargod in Kerala, Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, Pathanamthitta, Palakkad in Kerala and Drugmulla in Kupwara district of Kashmir.

Recently, Sachin sanctioned funds of over INR 40lakh from MPLAD for construction of a school building in Drugmulla area of Kupwara district in Kashmir which is the only school in the locality. Citizens of Drugmulla have shown peculiar quality - despite the years of turmoil and violence, the people have remained calm and friendly, but unfortunately lacking basic facilities and education. This funding will enable the student community in Drugmulla to get education which will help them over towards development. It will also help the kids to stay away from turmoil, and concentrate on their studies in a peaceful environment so that they can excel in their fields and become good citizens in the future.
