Tim Paine promises his Australian team will reduce sledging

Sydney, Apr 20 (IBNS): Australia's newly appointed Test skipper Tim Paine has said his team will reduce sledging under his leadership.

Paine was appointed as the skipper in the middle of the Test series against South Africa after then captain Steve Smith resigned following ball-tampering allegations.

Smith and David Warner were banned from playing international cricket for one year while Cameron Bancroft was handed over nine months ban by the Cricket Australia.

Head coach Darren Lehmann also resigned after the incident.

"No, I don't think it will, not a lot," Paine was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia website when asked if sledging will remain a part of the Australian team's tactics.

"I think there's always a time and a place to talk to your opposition, but I think what's said and how it's said will be very different going forward," he said.

Paine said his upcoming task will be to win the trust of fans and Australian public since the ball-tampering scam hit the cricket paradigm of the country hard.

Paine said:"I'm really looking forward to playing that role and winning back the trust and respect of our fans and the Australian public first and foremost. That's a really exciting thing for our playing group."
