4th Capt N Kenguruse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament 2018 held in Kohima

Guwahati, Sept 21 (IBNS):: Capt N Kenguruse, MVC Memorial Football Tournamant 2018 organised under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) concluded with an enthralling match between Nerhema FC, Kohima and the defending champion Vanguard FC, Wokha in Nagaland. 

Vanguard FC, Wokha trounced Nerhema FC in a hard fought match to lift the 4th Capt N Kenguruse, MVC Memorial Trophy.

This year the Kenguruse Cup was played on a larger  scale with a Curtain Raiser event that was held consequent to district level participation where the two best teams played in the Tournament  that was held at Kohima.

Lt Gen Abhay Krishna, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM,VSM, GOC-in- C Eastern Command was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony.

The Chief Guest unveiled the ‘Bust’ of Capt (Late) N Kenguruse followed by a  speech wherein he expressed that, Captain Kenguruse Football Tournament is aimed at fusing the indomitable Naga spirit and the passion of Naga youth for football, so that young sporting talent of the state can get an opportunity to showcase their skills and go on to become professional footballers.

The Army Commander connected with the spectators by delivering most part of his speech in Nagamese, which was received positively by the august gathering.

He also introduced and appreciated Lieutenant Hitesh son of Lance Naik Bachan Singh for making an effort to connect with the loved ones of the martyr. Lance Naik Bachan Singh also laid down his life alongwith Capt Kenguruse in the attack on Tololing and Black Rock in Kargil.

The effort put in by the Assam Rifles  in organizing the football tourney to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of the brave martyr was also appreciated as it was a medium to inspire the youth to carry forward his legacy.

The General Officer concluded his speech by expressing his happiness being in Nagaland and to be a part of the grand finale.

Other highlights of the closing ceremony were the combined Pipe band display of Assam Rifles, an Act on Kargil War by Little Tune Academy and enchanting songs by  local artists amidst  a cheerful crowd which created a scintillating sporting atmosphere.

The winners took home prizes worth Rs 1.7 lakh along with the Champion’s trophy while runners up got a trophy and award worth Rs 80000.

In the individual categories, Yhisnshalo Kemp of Vanguard FC received the Golden Boot Award and Rs 10,500, Medophrezo of Nerhema FC was awarded the Best Custodian and Rs 10,500, Rhitsomero of Vanguard FC was named the most valuable player of the tournament and awarded Rs 8,500.
