Adelaide Test: India 250/9 at stumps on day 1, Pujara hits ton
Adelaide, Dec 6 (IBNS): Riding on Cheteshwar Pujara's heroic century, India avoided a certain embarrassing total on the first day of the opening Test match against Australia at the Adelaide Oval here on Thursday.
India scored 250/9 at stumps with Pujara scoring 123 runs off 246 balls.
India's poor batting performance on foreign soil continued even in Australia as none of the batsmen, other than Pujara, could resist the Australian bowling.
In some cases, the Indian batters have virtually thrown their wickets by trying to play big shots when India were struggling on day one.
Though Rohit Sharma (37), Rishabh Pant (25) and Ravichandran Ashwin (25) got starts, they failed to convert them into big innings.
Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon- the four main Australian bowlers- picked two Indian wickets each to put the hosts in the driver's seat.
