Mumbai, Jan 2 (IBNS): Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has shared a heartfelt message on social media for his coach Ramakant Achrekar, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 87.

Tendulkar took to Twitter to share a message which says, "Cricket in heaven will be enriched with the presence of Achrekar Sir. Like many of his students, I learnt my ABCD of cricket under Sir's guidance. His contribution to my life cannot be captured in words. He built the foundation that I stand on."

"...Achrekar Sir taught us the virtues of playing straight and living straight. Thank you for making us a part of your life and enriching us with your coaching manual. Well played Sir and may you coach many more."

Achrekar is known to be the architect of Tendulkar's cricket career.

He also served as a selector of the Mumbai cricket team.

Some other cricketers who had trained under Achrekar were Vinod Kambli, Pravin Amre, Ajit Agarkar.

Remembering Achrekar, Kambli tweeted, "The person who gave birth to my cricketing career is You Ramakant Achrekar Sir, You will be missed. Rest in Peace. My Sincere condolences to the Achrekar family"

In 1990, Achrekar was honoured with the Dronacharya Award.

In 2010, he was conferred Padma Shri. In the same year, he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten, who was then the Indian coach.
