Kolkata, Jan 14 (IBNS): Asian Cup Gold medalist and noted oarsman Shakil Amed added one more feather to his cap when he set up a world record by completing 1,00,000 ( one lakh ) metres of indoor rowing in forty years and above category here Sunday.
FISA level one coach, Shakil, who has twenty six international medals during his rowing career so far and at present a FISA level one coach, began his record setting indoor rowing feat in Salt Lake stadium complex at 8 a.m on Sunday morning and achieved the rare feat of covering 1,00,000 metre of simulated distance after ten hours in presence of Secretary of West Bengal Rowing Association (WBRA) Secretary Souvik Ghosh and another WBRA committee member Aniruddha Mukherjee.
The event was displayed online throughout the world during the entire period.
Ghosh and Mukherjee said that they would now certify the feat to the authorities of Limca Book of Records for entering the achievement in their record book.
Shakeel also has the record of completing 50,000 (fifty thousand) metres of simulated rowing in 4 hours and 13 minutes which is already in the Limca Record Book.
Rowing Federation of India General Secretary Girish Phadnis congratulated Shakil for the unique feat and said, “It is indeed a big achievent.“
Shakil Ahmed started rowing in 1993 and is an Asian Cup Gold Medallist in 8+ (Eights) held in Singapore.
